One of Mahecas UK's biggest fund-raisers is an annual sponsored walk. In the early-mid summer of each year, Mahecas UK organises a route for its supporters to walk. They arrange sponsorship from their friends and colleagues, and the profits go to help the medical services in Malawi.
In past years the walk has been held in the beautiful area of North Wales. Walks have taken in wonderful scenery which on good days includes Snowdonia Mountain, Blackpool Tower, the Lake District and the Clwydian Valley. The event has in the past attracted over 50 people, and raised around £3,000.
The walk has previously been organised in May to take advantage of the good weather, and coincide with the F.A. Cup. After the walk, the crowd gathers in a nice countryside pub to watch a football. The atmosphere and comradeship, not to mention the beer, make this a very pleasant afternoon activity. This generally stretches into evening entertainment, sometimes planned and sometimes not, to round off a great day.
In recent years, the walk has been moved from the hills of North Wales to the equally beautiful but much flatter Wirral peninsula. This is to allow everyone, young and old, fit and not-quite-so-fit, to take part. It has been organised so that walkers (and spectators) can reflect on their efforts over a drink or two and some years when it coincides, they can watch together the FA Cup final.
We sincerely hope you will all join us again for the next Walk.
