Edward was born at Mgoza village in Balaka, Malawi where he received his primary school education. He continued his schooling at Mtendere and Blantyre Secondary Schools, before obtaining a scholarship to read medicine at the University of Manchester Medical School.
Despite living in the United Kingdom since 1970, Edward never forgot his birthplace, the plight of those he had left behind in Malawi and the strong Malawian traditions imparted to him during his adolescence. It was this commitment to Malawi which lead to Edward being one of the founding members and the first chairman of the charity Malawi Healthcare Support UK (MAHECAS).
Edward was instrumental in helping lay firm foundations for MAHECAS. Even when his term of office as chairman came to an end, he was fully involved in the activities of the organisation in helping the medical services of Malawi He continued to offer advice up to the final days of his life, and MAHECAS members will always remember his untiring effort and leadership.
Those who knew Edward as a friend or work colleague will always remember him for his jovial personality and willingness to help others. He will also be remembered as a focused and determined person who worked very hard to achieve his goals. His determination will continue to be an inspiration to many.
Edward will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched, primarily his relatives in Malawi, the members of the charity Malawi Health Care Support UK, and most especially, by his three children Chaphuka, Zaithwa and Nthambi and his wife Cecilia. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
